The Government

But in actuality its not as bad as we think

Example would be the government could hire the company DoubleClick to provide Internet cookies so then DoubleClick could search there databases for information about a person and then give it over to the government so that they could look at every website the person was on

Any way in which the government can control our daily lives to the point we have no control.

For Example...

Obesity is now considered a disease. If you get food stamps they can potentially regulate what you can and can't buy. So, if you're considered obese, you may not be able to buy fatty snacks and pop.

  • Under Obamacare you cannot purchase over-the-counter medication or nutritional supplements, only costly prescription medication
  • Have to go to recommended physicians, usually at more expensive hospital owned practices
  • Under the Obamacare 'Silver Plan' you have to pay $2,000 out of pocket before your insurance even kicks in
  • How involved can the Government get in our privacy?

The courts have not reached an agreement regarding the legality of warrantless cell phone searches.

Supreme court says "The Fourth Amendment protects people not places."

Still most courts think a person has a reasonable expectation of privacy in their cell phone.

2 examples of governmental control:

Survey on Cell phones:

  • 88% of adults in the U.S. own a cell phone.
  • 55% use their phones for email and the Internet.
  • Obama Care (affordable care act)

Cell Phones

An Unreasonable Expectation ? Warrantless Searches of Cellphones

  • Story in this article about a man who gets his phone searched by police.
  • His Fourth Amendment rights were violated.
  • Monitoring us through:
  • Cell phones
  • Internet

Fourth Amendment: People to be secure in against unreasonable searches shall not be violated.

This demonstrates the dangers of the government having power to search your cell phone without a warrant.

Control of Privacy

Electronic Medical Records

  • treasure trove of medical information
  • Can be accessed by the Department of Health and Human Services, the IRS, and FBI
  • Even private health insurance companies have to send information
  • For example...

Physician Control

  • Cost of regulations, compliance costs, and dramatic drops in reimbursements are driving private practices out
  • Bigger reimbursements are in 'high risk' areas
  • Doctors are being forced into more hospital owned practices
  • Costs to patients in hospital owned practice is usually double or triple that of an individually owned practice

Under Obamacare, THEY decide your treatment

ObamaCare

  • 'They' being government determined experts
  • Decisions are made by
  • Cost of Treatment
  • Effectiveness
  • Your 'quality life years' remaining

Obama care:

controlling the economy

Law saying that everyone has access to health insurance that is affordable.

  • 1/6 of economy controlled by Obamacare

  • all working Americans must submit proof of insurance or pay the government

The Catch...

Government Control

  • Someone with no insurance still pays.
  • Either pay for insurance or pay the fee.
