The process of manufacturing a wooden hockey stick

Distrubution

Production

This product is sold all over the world in sports stores and this product could range from 10's to 100's of dollars. These prices are not the true price because the true price is about a 3rd of the retail price.

An electric box van will save on gas and pollution to deliver the hockey sticks

The wooden hockey stick is first carved out of wood to the shape of a hockey stick, then the blade is hollowed and it is inserted with foam. The last stage is that the stick is coated entirely with plastic or fiberglass. The product is mainly made in Montreal, Quebec. There are 3.2 million wooden hockey sticks made a year. The chemiclas that are used to make the sticks are polyol, water and dissocyanate for foam. Silica is used for fiberglass and cellulose, coal, natural gas, salt and crude oil for plastic. The wooden hockey sticks are packaged in bubble wrap then put in a box of card board. Ships and trucks are used to transport this product to sellers. Trees, energy, water, and gas are resources that are involved with this production. The resources for this product are processed except for wood.

Extraction

Disposal

people use chainsaws to cut down trees which uses non reusable fossil fuel.

The amount of the products waste depends on the amount of times it breaks. The products use depends on the durability of the product. Wooden hockey sticks can be recycled and reused. When the product breaks they are taken to a land fill but it can be used for manufacturing other products that are wood based which saves wood.

The resources needed to create wooden hockey sticks are trees because of the wood that is needed to be cut into the shape of a hockey stick. Right now trees are being cut and not being planted again which kills and drives off the wild life and trees which circulate oxygen so we can breath. These resources come from all over the world but mainly because they are made in canada are from canada. Quebec is where most of the wood for the wooden hockey sticks come from.

Consumption

The only government involvment are taxes. There is perceived obsolescence. The products shelf life depends on when a newer model will be coming in. How often the product is purchased depends on the amount of times it breaks which depends on how good the stick is durability wise. The hockey stick can also be used for decorations as in chairs, tables etc.
