The Marine Corps Silent Drill School
they say that the Silent Drill Platoon is the sharpest, most crisp, together drill platoon, but that dosen't mean they are perfect all the time.
each marine is assigned one of the 24 spots to learn the routines.
as each week goes by, the student body is slowly going down to the very top drill team members. evetually the top 15-20 students are choosen and are taken with the platoon to Yuma, AZ to complete their final training.
while in Yuma, the SDS students, along with the older members of the platoon, spend 10-12 hours a day perfecting the upcoming parade season's drill routine.
The long periods of training helps the students gain confidence. Eventually, new and old members alike compete head-to-head to earn a spot on the "Marching 24" during Challenge Day; the final phase of platoon tryouts.
Each year from Novemeber to March, the marine corps silent drill school conducts SDS in order to select new marines for the upcoming parade season.
at any given time, the SDS will have between 30 and 90 students, along with 15 to 20 instructors.
students spend a few week to months in the course, the instructors seek to ensure that each marine is set up for future success at the barracks.
Discipline, bearing, attention to detail, work ethic are all important points that are taught at the SDS.

Over the past few years, the Platoon has travelled to:
-belleau wood, France
-Fort Henry, Canada
-Guam
-Iwo Jima
In the United States, they regularly performs at schools, parades, and special events around the country, including professional football, baseball, and basketball games.
The Silent Drill platoon was first put together and first performed in the Sunset Parades of 1948. they recieved such an overwhelming response that it soon became a regular part of the parades at marine barracks Washington D.C.
Since September of the early 1900's, marching and musical units from Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., have been paying tribute to those whose "Uncommon valor was a common virtue" by presenting Sunset Parades in the shadow of the 32-foot high figures of the United States Marine Corps War Memorial.

For those who have never seen or heard of the silent drill platoon, here they are!
If so, what do you know about them?
- During silent Drill School, they would practice 6-8 hours a day.
- back in the day, at the NHSDTC, there was a school that liked the SDP routine so much, they decided to copy it and perform it. the routine ended up placing, and soon they were caught for it and were told to never perform/steal the routine again.
