This starfish feed on algae, detritus, and dead animals. One of its predators is the sea snail. It also eats various small invertebrates and coral polyps.

Starfish play an important role in keeping the numbers of other organisms down. Sea stars are often referred to as a keystone species, as their feeding has an effect on the whole ecosystem.

It is easily identified by its five distinctive large, short, thick conical arms. It is usually pale pink in color, has small, brown papillae in clusters located in the central part of its body. This species grows to a maximum radius of approximately 27 cm.

Commonly known as the granulated sea star, cushion seastar, and doughboy star, the choriaster granulatus is a species of starfish. It's the only species of the Choriaster genus. It is found in tropical waters, in the shallow, usually coral reefs.

When we go out into the ocean and play we can step on them. Also when we take them out of the water and play with them or take them home or when we sell them. Or when we pollute the water and kill their habitat and in and in doing so killing the starfish.
