Card

Students with a growth mindset tend to look for opportunities to learn, develop learning strategies, and look for assessments of their weaknesses in order to develop them (Dweck, 2008).

I think I will start each lesson with with a discussion of a person who did not achieve greatness the first time around. I will then encourage students to take risks and point to the I Blew it Card.

This was the first time I tried it. Not many kids took advantage of it; however, 3 Students turned in a card. I asked if they would be willing to discuss their thoughts and process with the class. One agreed, and it was insightful. He explained that he tried to write through the point of view of a minor character, and every time he tried, he rain into a road block with carrying out the plot. I think one of the students used it to get an extension on his homework; however, that is still part of the learning process.

Growth Mindset

“In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work – brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and resilience that is essential for great accomplishment” (Dweck, 2008, p. 63).

Exhibiting growth mindset traits is a quality of an effective teacher.

Believing that intelligence is malleable and can be developed has significant impacts on learning.

(Dweck, 2008)

Teachers with growth mindsets set higher standards in the classroom and help all students achieve those standards

I tried something new and innovative and it didn't

work as well as I wanted.

This COUPON entitles me to be free of criticism for

my efforts and to try again.

Use this pad to write down answers or solve problems even when you are not sure of the answers. All tries are risk and criticism free.
