Defining Emotional & Behavioral Disorders (EBD):
Serious Emotional Disability
- emotional disorders, behavioral disorders, or a combination of both
- difficult to diagnose
- affects students ability to learn
- prevents students from building and maintaining relationships

Possible Causes
- inappropriate feelings in a normal situation
- depression or unhappiness for an extended period of time
- aggressive behavior towards him/herself and others
- adverse physical symptoms due to fear of personal or school problems
- under-performance in the classroom
Characteristics of EDBs are commonly observed in childhood and young adolescents. Teachers may be the first to recognize warning signs.
