The answer for the last question is no. The only sense of survival that salmon have is the sense of smell to find their own homeland. The senses of survival that salmon have is to find their home to lay their eggs. I don't know how salmon has the sense to find their homeland. However, I believe it's because of magnets. For an example, birds find their way back because they have a magnet in their head, and technically, Earth is a giant magnet. I believe that salmon might have this ability, too.
Some threats that salmon react are:
Otters, Seagulls, Sharks, Seals, Pikes and more other predators. These predators are natural threats to salmon in different stages. Salmon use their ways(Salmon schools, Deep and dark areas) to defend themselves from these predators.

They have a few ways how they defend/protect themselves.
A. They seek deep areas to swim in. When a predator is coming on their way, they go into deep and dark areas so the predators can't see them.
B. They have salmon schools. Salmon schools are : Salmons moving around in groups to scare the predators away by looking like a larger fish(Threat)
Their parents(mom) dig a shallow nest in the stream. This nest is called a redd. The female lays the eggs when she is ready. After the female lays their eggs, while the egg is in the process, they die. The reason why they die is / 1:They are getting to old to live, 2: They used most of their energy to get up the river. Conclusion : It is not their parents that teach them because they are not there to teach them.
