1531: Parliament recognizes Henry VIII as head of the Church

1483: Martin Luther was born

1542: Henry VIII executes Catherine Howard (5th wife)

1540: Henry divorces Anne of Cleves (4th wife)

1537: Henry's third wife, Jane Seymour, has a son, Edward VI, and dies from complications

1520: Pope Leo X threatened excommunication against Luther unless Luther was to revoke his 95 Theses

1559: John Knox (Scottish preacher) puts Calvin's ideas to work

1559: Officials drew up a list of books considered dangerous to Catholic faith

August 24, 1572; Catholic feast of St. Bartholomew day: Catholic mobs began hunting for Protestants and murdering them

1524: German peasants revolt because of revolutionary ideas

1536: Henry VIII's second wife, Anne Boleyn, is beheaded

1547: Henry VIII dies, and Catherine Parr (6th wife) outlives him, and Edward VI begins his 6 year rule

1545-1563: Council of Trent, which was made up of Catholic Bishops and Cardinals, agreed on and established several doctrines in the Church

1536: Calvin published Institutes of the Christian religion

1600's: Rulers of nation states would seek more power for themselves and their countries through warfare, exploration, and expansion

1560's: Protestant nobles led by Knox made Calvinism Scotland's official religion

1534: Act of Supremacy names Henry VIII and successors head of the English Church

1516: Henry VIII daughter, Mary I, is born

1541: Protestants in Geneva, Switzerland asked Calvin to lead their city

1536: Henry VIII marries Jane Seymour (3rd wife)
