I picked the numbers .11, 2/5, -10, -7. I picked two negative numbers and two positive numbers. There is one decimal number. There is one fraction number.
-10 < -7
-7 is closer to 0 so it it the larger number.
- If Jim gave me -7 gummy bears,
and Julia took 5, how many am I left with?
- I ate 2/5 of my pizza. Jack at 1/2 of another piece. how much am I left with? 3/10
- If I am -10 inches away from the finish line, and then I walk another
6 inches how many more inches until I'm finished? -4
-10 + 6 = -4
2/5 + 3/5 = 5/5 = 1 whole
when you have addition and one number is a negative (-) you have to subtract, but if they're both positive the add them like usual.
.11 - 5 = .6
-7 - (-2) = -5
When you have a subtraction problem you have to add a line and change the sign, so if its negative (-) then you change it into a positive, if its a positive (+) change it to a negative.
-7 / 14 = -2
2/5 / 3/10 = 133
when multiplying and diving you want to use your triangle, the top corner is a positive (+) and the two bottom corners are negative (-)
-7 x 3 = -21
-9 x -2 = 18
when multiplying and diving you want to use your triangle, the top corner is a positive (+) and the two bottom corners are negative (-)

Same signs add and keep different signs subtract, keep the sign the higher number then you'll be exact.
