Students should practice writing around similar prompts, such as:

-The Industrial Revolution and the tendency toward urbanization

-Women's entry into the workforce during WWII and changing societal roles

- Cause and Effects of Westward expansion

Students must also draw inferences about human systems from graphs, charts, and figures. Government and Economics are both largely covered by analyzing graphs and charts (though students will still need prior knowledge.)

Students will be asked to analyze primary sources, like quotes, photographs, and historical political cartoons and draw conclusions.

The writing prompts are minimal, and emphasize an understanding of historical cause and effect

While there are long passages on history on the ORT, the main literacy focus should be INFERENCE.

Students need to WRITE.

Text-Dependent Questions

strategy

I focused on the work despite distractions.

I kept myself on task.

self regulation

I did the most difficult work first.

I created a daily planner for the work I need to accomplish today.

- A significant percentage of tasks and questions are text dependent.

-The standards strongly focus on students gathering evidence, knowledge, and insight from what they read.

-A majority of the questions and tasks that students ask and respond to be based on the text.

prioritizing

Before reaching out for help, I have tried to figure out what is confusing me.

strategy

Yesterday I focused for ____ minutes, and today I can focus for ____ minutes.

goal setting

When students are halfway through independent work, have them self-assess using these criteria:

A strategy we can use: Stamina Checklist

 Unpack sample questions.

 Revise student writing.

-Read well with focus for 15 minutes – self reflect

-Read well with focus for 30 minutes - self reflect

-Read well with focus for 45 minutes – self reflect

Working at it diligently for longer periods of time

will help build up stamina!
