Assignment Extensions

At times students have mitigating circumstances that may result in them not being able to complete their assignments. If you feel you might need to apply for an extension you must do so BEFORE the due date of your assessment

To apply you must fill out a request form at RECEPTION with the correct unit code, assessment number and reasons for your application

Peter George or Joel Loxton will then assess the situation to determine if your situation warrants an extension

Our on-site counsellor Sarah is available by appointment only if you feel you need to talk to someone - appointments can only be made by Jill the librarian

OHS is very important to us, so you MUST wear closed toe shoes at all times on campus.

Like any camera rental company, you need to follow a set of rules when borrowing equipment:

• Check your gear when you pick it up: It’s the student’s responsibility to check all equipment when they are picking up an order. Make sure everything is accounted for and working BEFORE you sign it out. If something is missing or broken when it is returned, you might be held responsible for it.

• Report problems and breakages: When returning equipment students must report any broken or faulty items to the facilities staff. This helps ensure that the equipment is in perfect working condition for everyone.

• When you are at fault: If a student has lost/broken something, they may need to pay for the repair/replacement before they are allowed to borrow any more equipment. The amount will be either for the replacement of the item or the insurance excess on more expensive items.

Equipment Booking Tier System

What happens if I break something?

As a JMC student, you will have access to some of the top state-of-the-art camera and audio equipment. But what happens when something goes wrong? We understand that things break and accidents happen. However, students can be held responsible for equipment that break or go missing due to negligence and irresponsible behavior.

As Trimester 1 students you are ONLY allowed to hire the

Canon XF300 Camera and Manfrotto Tripod.

As Trimester 1 students you are NOT permitted to hire out any lighting.

In our FTV Studio you will be supervised in correct lighting practices.

JMC Mentor Program

Online Equipment Booking - Checkfront

We use an online booking system called Checkfront to hire film equipment to our students for your assignments

jmcacademy.checkfront.com/reserve

Equipment hire is for ASSESSMENTS ONLY - equipment can not be hired out for personal use

If you want to hire equipment out for personal use you MUST email your reasons and a project brief to Peter George at pgeorge@jmc.edu.au

You must allow 3 days processing time and we will only accept requests for non-commercial projects. If approved JMC would effectively be sponsoring your project, a JMC logo would need to be included a final copy of the film for sign-off.

Peter and the facilities staff will then assess your application

In the interest of supporting our students and helping to ease the transition into JMC Academy and Melbourne, a Mentorship program is made available to all first year students commencing their studies at JMC Academy.

Students from Trimester 4 will be nominated as Mentors to help new students by providing information regarding the systems and processes JMC undertakes on a daily basis.

To make contact with a Mentor please email Luke Hill, our Champion Mentor @ lhill@jmc.edu.au to organise.
