Professional Conduct With Clients

What is a coach?

Conflicts of Interest

A coach is one who instructs or trains- especially one who instructs players or individuals of a sport and directs team strategy.

People who have been sexually involved with a mentor or student will experience intense forms of cognitive dysfunction. There may be interference with attention, memory, or concentration. The benefits the mentoring experience will often be interrupted by uninhibitted thoughts, indiscreet images, or rememberances. These cognitive impairments may signifigantly interfere with one's ability to carry out even the most routine aspects of functioning in an academic environment.

I will only barter for services, goods or other non-monetary remuneration when it will not impair the coaching relationship.

Professional Conduct at Large

The International Coach Federation adheres to a form of coaching that honors the client as the expert in his/her life and work and believes that every client is creative, resourceful, and whole. Standing on this foundation, the coach's responsibility is to:

Discover, clarify, and align with what the client wants to achieve;

Encourage client self-discovery;

Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies;

Hold the client responsible and accountable.

To properly mentor a protege takes considerable time and effort. It is strongly recommended that all mentors are compensated. However, to protect the relationship of the mentor and protege, the compensation shall not violate the integrity of the intended relationship.

I will not knowingly make any public statements that are untrue or misleading, or make false claims in any written documents relating to the coaching profession.

Confidentiality/ Privacy

Integrity First Mentoring

A teacher mentor is a teacher first, but now one who is coaching pre-service teachers. This can be the ticket for a new teacher's survival in ways the mentor never thought possible.

Integrity Is The MOST Important Quality In Every Area Of Our Lives...Both Personally & Professionally. Integrity Is The Foundation Upon Which Lasting, Worthwhile, Trusting Relationships Are Built. Whatever You Build, Build It With Integrity!

I will respect the confidentiality of my client's information, except as otherwise authorized by my client, or as required by law.

The relationship between the mentor and the mentee is confidential both ways. Mentors are not evaluators and must not be asked to share in the evaluation process. What is observed in the classroom, exchanged in a conference or written communication, or jotted in a journal must remain confidential if trust is to be maintained in the mentoring relationship.
