"Where on earth are you going with that bow?"
"You, you grubby swineherd, are you crazy?"
"The speedy dogs you reared will eat your corpse-"
"Out there with your pigs, out in the cold, alone!"
"If only Apollo and all the gods shine down on us!"
This is breaking Xenia because the suitors are disrespecting a man who was invited into the house by Telemachus.
He sneaked into the palace by himself and he also tried to convince the suitors that he would not succeeded at stringing the bow that way they would give it to him.
He was faced with the difficult obstacle of not only trying to get back into his own palace but he also had to get his bow and arrow and shoot it through the 13 axes.
"Here's our signal. When all the rest in there, our lordly friends, are dead against my having the bow and quiver, good Eumaeus, carry the weapon down the hall and put it in my hands. Then tell the serving-women to lock the snugly fitted doors to their own rooms...You, my dear Philoetius, here are your orders. Shoot the bolt of the courtyard's outer gate, lock it, lash it fast."
This is Strategic because Odysseus is making a plan for Eumaeus and Philoetius to follow once he shoots the bow through the 13 axes.
"Here is a bow to rob our best of life and breath, all our best contenders! Still, better be dead than live on here, never winning the prize that tempts us all"
This signifies strength because that suitor is saying that no man could string that bow but Odysseus so you might as well give up and move on.
Athena inspired Penelope to go into the hidden chamber in the Palace, and open the door with the bronze Ivory key. In the chamber lay Odysseus’s gold, bronze silver; and a bow given to Odysseus by Iphitus.
Iphitus was Odysseus friend, but was killed soon after he gave Odysseus his bow in return for a sharp sword, a rugged spear. It was a symbol of their friendship. Heracles was the one to kill Ipithus, so after that Odysseus only used the bow for hunting.
Penelope then take’s the back sprung bow, with its quiver bristling arrows. She offered an ultimatum to the suitors. She told them that in order to win her hand in marriage a suitor would have to string Odysseus’s Bow, and shoot an arrow straight throw 13 axes.
About three men tried to string the bow, but none had the strength that matched Odysseus’s. They even tried to grease the bow with lard, but still none could bend it.
Odysseus was in disguise at the moment, he had sneaked back into his palace unnoticed. Odysseus then went outside following two men, and asked them how far would they go to fight beside Odysseus again. Their response then assured Odysseus that they were loyal, so he revealed himself to them.
They recognized him because of the scar he had gotten from a white boar hunting on Parnassus.
He told them that he would give them land next to his, find them wives, and viewed as comrades to prince Telemachus.
He gave them details on his plan to kill all the suitors. He told Eumaeus to tell the maids to lock themselves in their rooms so they would not see or hear the groaning of men. Then he told Philoetius to shoot the bolt of the courtyards outer gate, lock it, and then lash it fast.
Odysseus then walked in, and asked to string the bow, but he got insulted and denied at first by Antinous. Penelope watched, and then told him he not dare insult a guest invited by Telemachus.
No one believed that Odysseus could string the bow; they made fun of him and said he could only string it if Apollo helped him. Telemachus sent his mother to her quarters and gave the bow to Odysseus against the will of the suitors.
Odysseus in a disguise then strung the bow with ease.
Telemachus gave Odysseus a spear and said "Now You All Die!".
