How can I tell if a animal is really a service animal and not a pet?
Some, but not all, service animals wear special collars and harnesses. Some, but not all, are licensed or certified and have identification papers. If you are not certain that an animal is a service animal, you may ask the person who has the animal if it is a service animal required because of a disability. However, an individual who is going out for a day on the water may not be carrying documentation of his or her medical condition or disability. Therefore, such documentation generally may not be required as a condition for providing service to an individual accompanied by a service animal.
A service dog is never running loose.
Your role is to inform a pet owner of the restrictions on pets at Three Rooker. If a dog owner identifies the animal as a service dog, thank them for the information and wish them a great day. If you believe that they are misrepresenting a pet as a service animal, discreetly call FWC at 888 404-3922, but do not continue the conversation with the pet owner. Your job is done.
