Ox Pulled Plow & Irrigation

Irrigation

The prosperity of a civilization depended on getting water from the Nile River. Irrigation was extremely important to farmers because it allowed them to water their crops faster than before, which means they now had time for more crops and could expand their Irrigation was like a system of underground canals that diverted water from the Nile River to the fields so the crops would grow.

Irrigation

Records have shown that Egyptians were the first to use irrigation along the Nile river in about 3150B.C. Many people think farmers invented irrigation but only because pharaohs encouraged them to.

Irrigation was invented so plants could be watered, even if they were far away from the nearest water source. Irrigation was invented 5000 years ago.

Ox Pulled Plow

This invention has not only revolutionized the cultivation of Egyptian people, but its modified version is still used today by farmers in the underdeveloped countries that can not afford machines for plowing fields. According to sources, in the first version of an ox-drawn plow, the plows were hooked to the horns of cattle, however, because of its impact that affected their ability to breathe freely it was altered. Therefore, in the more developed version, the ancient Egyptians began to attach the plows to the bodies of their oxen by straps.

This Egyptian invention was one of the most important devices that brought a revolution in the field of Egyptian agriculture. The ox pulled plow was invented approximately around 4000B.C. This discovery was carried out through Egypt and therefore was discovered in Egypt. The use of oxen power to pull the plow made loosening of the soil much easier and faster than doing it with hands, or using humans for the task.
