A Lune poem is a short 3 lined poem that consists of 13 syllables .
The first line must have 5 syllables, the second must have three and the third must have five. There is a variant lune created by poet Jack Collom. His form is also a self-contained tercet, but his poem is word-based (not syllable-based) and has the structure of 3 words in the first line, 5 words in the second line and 3 words in the final line.
An envelope labeled,
loose change holds coins meant,
for teeth.
This poem is a lune beacuse it is a three line poem. The first with 5 syllables, the second with 3 and the final with 5.

Trees never wonder,
but still spread,
across open fields.
When the gold sun shouts,
Rays blaze out,
Shining all day long.

The lune poem is also well known as the American Haiku. Robert Kelly was the first poet to write a Lune Poem. After much experimentation, he settled on a 13-syllable, self-contained poem that has 5 syllables in the first line, 3 syllables in the second line and 5 syllable in the final line.
Many different poets used the lune. Such as Robert Kelly and Jack Collom. There are also many people around that world that are creating Lune poems themselves.
