Upon entering the town on march 13th, Ward and his men defeated the mexicans around the mission. Ward and King decided to stay in Refugio. King, still wanting to bother mexican supporters, went to find a fight. At the time Urrea sent Captain Rafael Pretalia and his men to attack the Texans while he gathered his infantry unit. At dawn on March 14th Pretalia's men attacked Ward and his men. When King's men had returned they faced the rear end of Urrea's infantry and hid among the trees firing on Urrea's force. Because King and Ward had not prepared for a day long battle, by dusk they had run nearly dry of ammunition. Not wanting to surrender, both King and Ward decided to leave during nighttime.
During the Battle of the Alamo, Sam Houston dispatched Amon B. King and 28 men to evacuate any American settlers from Refugio. When King arrived on March 12th, 1836 he and his men wasted time harassing local mexican supporters. Still focused in his actions, king did not immediately notice Urrea's cavalry enter the town. King's men then fled into the mission Nuestra Senora del Rosario, where the cavalry was kept at bay by king's riflemen.Fannin sent Colonel William Ward with Georgia Battalion to asssit King and his men.
The battle of San Patricio started at 3:00am on February 27, 1836.The one that 'lead' the battle was Francis w. Johnson & Dr. James Grant. Thou most of the men left to follow Sam Houston about 60-70 men stayed. General Urrea sent word to the people that lived there saying that if they don't light a candle in there house to prove that there loyal to Mexico .The Mexican amy killed 16 and took 30 prisoner and only a few people were able to leave.
In conclusion both these battles caused good and bad things for the mexican army. The good was that a lot of Texans had been defeated, but the mexicans paid the price of losing a large of amount of good soldiers.
