Who would be the audience for your media product?- Evaluation

Mass or niche audience?

Lifestyle

Socio-economic groups

My target audience is more of an niche audience because Indie music is a much smaller population compared to Pop music. In addition there are less Indie magazines out there and I really wanted to target this specific genre so that it mainly interests those who are interested in that genre of music. However, Indie music is on the bigger scale of a niche audience compared the genre Blue Grass. Which means more sales and less limited compared to the genre Blue Grass as a much smaller population that listens to that specific genre.

What is your target age?

What in-groups and out groups would they belong to?

Gender:

Interests:

Penumbra effect

My audience would come under C2DE as they are likely to be unemployed or have a part-time job however their parents come under ABC1. They had a good up-bringing and were able to go to a variety of gigs without struggling to save up. I would like my target audience to be from this group so that they will be able to afford my magazine which is at a reasonable price.

What music would they like?

My target audience would associate themselves in a in-group Indie and enjoy being around those who dress in a similar way as themselves and listen to Indie music.

My target audience are still in education and are in between the years of year 11-13. I decided to look at these years as this is when people start to come into themselves and they know what they enjoy and don't enjoy. Also between these years you are able to have a part-time job or full time job so they are able to afford magazines, albums and gigs. This means they will be more likely to purchase my magazine.

I think that the penumbra effect would be relevant to my magazine as people above the age of 18 are still interested in Indie music for example a University student or 50 quid bloke this is because Indie music was also popular in the past because of bands like the Oasis or Stone Roses people who enjoyed these bands may want to see what artists are big today in the Indie genre so might buy my magazine to find this out.

My target audience is very interested in music and enjoys going to gigs and festivals with friends. They enjoy fashion and spend a lot of time also reading fashion magazines as well as music magazines. They enjoy vintage clothing as it is very unique but also cheaper than High street fashion. In addition they would rather watch independent films for example Palo Alto as they find them more interesting than a Major studio production.

I decided to target the female population as I looked at the National readership survey and I found that there is a massive difference between how many males buy a specific magazine compared to females. So I want to target my music magazine to females as I believe there isn't a lot of music magazines that interest female readers

For my magazine I decided to have a specific target age of 16-18 as I find there isn't a lot of magazines in general for this age gap. This made me want to specifically look at this age group but also we find now the younger generation are going online instead of buying magazines and I want to change this.

My target audience enjoy mainly Indie music. Their favorite bands include Peace, Foals and Two Door Cinema Club. He/She enjoy going to festivals such as Reading as it has a more of a variety of artists and bands that fit into the genre of Indie music. They like to listen to this genre as it is very different to other genres also none of the music sounds the same unlike Pop music where the background music and lyrics sound very similar to each others.
