The American Revolution!

It all started with the French and Indian War...

The French and Indian War started between the French and the British.

It ended with the Treaty of Paris, when Great Britain won!

The war had cost Britain a major debt, but it also gave Britain control of North America.

After that came the Proclamation of 1763!

The Proclamation of 1763, prohibited colonist from expanding west of the Appalachian mountains.

Settlers weren't happy about this.

Next came the Taxes and Sons of Liberty.

The British had financial problems, so the decided to place tax on the colonist.

The colonist were furious because they believed their rights were being violated.

The colonist started smuggling goods to avoid taxes.

The Boston Massacre

The British sent redcoats to the colonies to watch the colonist.

The relations betweent he recoats and the towns people grew more tense.

A fight broke out in March 5th, 1770.

Five colonist were killed.

The Boston Tea Party

In the late 1773's, three tea ships arrived at Boston Harbor.

On December 16th, the Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians, and dumped 342 chest of tea.

The Intolerable Acts

These were very harsh laws intended to punish Bostionians for their resistance.

The First Continental Congress

Deleagates from all 13 colonies except Georgia.

This organization came together to represent American interest and challenge British control.

Paul Revere's Ride

Paul Revere and William Dawes rode to Lexinton and Concord to warn Sam Adams and John Hancock "The British are coming!"

The Battle of Lexington and Concord

British troops and Minutemen got into a brawl.

The Second Continental Congress

The Congress governed the colonies, set up a postal office, printed money, and created the Coninental Army.

The Battle of Bunker Hill

The British won the battle of Bunker Hill, but suffered great losses.

This forced colonist to decide on staying loyalist or becoming patriots.

The Declaration of Indepence

The Declaration of Independence was written to declare war on Britain.

Thomas Jefferson was elected to write the Declaration of Independence.

British Military Advantages

Strongest Navy, experienced well trained army, numbers, and money.

Colonist Advantages

Fighting on American land, determination, and George Washington.

British Disadvantages

Hired mercenaries, fighting over seas.

Continental Army Disadvantages

Unexperienced, poor, lacked numbers and navy, lack discipline.

Crossing the Delaware

The Continental Army crossed the Delaware River on Christmas day.

They captured more than 900 Hessians.

Then marched to Princeton and drove the British away.

The Battle of Saratoga

General Burgoyne surrendered to the George Washington.

Valley Forge

The Continental Army didn't receive news of the French alliance until spring of 1778.

Victory of Yorktown

George Washington won the battle because of the french alliance in 1781.

Treaty of Paris

1783, delegates made the Treaty of Paris to end the war.

The Stamp Act

In 1765, Parliament passed the Stamp Act (tax on everything printed), to raise money for Britain's war debt, but was later repealed in March 1766.
