How was the Weimar constitution different?
1. Read through the extracts from the Second Reich (under the Kaiser) and the Weimar constitution.
2. Complete the chart on the different parts of the constitution.

How did the Weimar Constitution work?

- The new democracy had to write a new and pass a new constitution.
- This task began in January 1919 when elections were held for the German Constituent Assembly.
- The elections for the assembly were held on the basis of universal male suffrage, and used proportional representation system similar to the one that would be adopted in the Weimar constitution a few months later.
