Ever since the ESEA was created, we have made numerous strides towards improving education. As time passes and students with different needs and abilities enter school, changes need to be continuously made in order to meet the needs of the children of America. The main goal of the ESEA was to provide equal access to education for all. It provided the first major funding increase for public schools. In 2001 the NCLB Act was passed in order to improve the ESEA. Funds were increased and quality of education increased, however it left unrealistic goals and many problems arrived with the new standardized tests. Common Core has been the biggest point of concern. Recently the ESSA was passed in attempt to fix the problems of the NCLB Act. Students will be prepared for college and their future careers, and performance will no longer be based solely on standardized stests. Common Core will also no longer be a requirement. As a teacher I truly hope that the ESSA helps us get out of this hole we are in educationally.
