I think this line means that for the unknown soldier, the war is finally over because he has been killed,
'Its all over", not just the Vietnam war but the soldiers life.
Wait until the war is over
And we're both a little older.
The unknown soldier.
Breakfast where the news is read.
Television, children fed.
Unborn living, living dead.
Bullet strikes the helmet's head.
And it's all over for the unknown soldier.
It's all over for the unknown soldier.
Uh.
March!
Company, halt!
Present arms!
Make a grave for the unknown soldier.
Nestled in your hollow shoulder.
The unknown soldier.
Breakfast where the news is read.
Television, children fed.
Unborn living, living dead.
Bullet strikes the helmet's head.
And it's all over.
The war is over.
It's all over.
War is over.
It's all over, baby!
All over, baby!
Oh all right, yeah!
All over, yeah ha ha!
All over!
All over, baby!
Oh, oh yeah!
All over.
All over.
Yeah...
I think this line is trying to show the irony of the Vietnam war and the fact that it will actually end, and that people will start celebrating, and forget all the soldiers that were lost.
“The Unknown Soldier” was released in 1968 and was the first single on "The Doors" album “Waiting for the Sun”. This was also one of the songs they made a video for which was unusual at the time. The song was written by all four members but was based on Jim Morrison’s view on what what was happening in Vietnam and how it was portrayed in media, in the vietnam war everything was on tv there was little that was not on recorded for the everyone to see.
In these lyrics it shows the pain the family's face waiting for their loved one to return from war. Average people were sent to fight, they went to war, had no choice, and lots didn't return.
These lines show the way news concerning the war, was uncensored, and in the living rooms of ordinary people. I think the line means children are fed information by television and adults by newspaper, I think this shows that the war was open to everyone, people saw what was happening no matter their age.
I think this line is meant to mean that the war was pointless, that the soldiers life is over before its begun, that no matter happens in Vietnam the soilders life hasnt started before hes lost who he was and became just another soldier.
