The 16 content areas of MCS/MCSS/MCS2 are called “strands.” A strand is a set of skills in one

content area, arranged in order of increasing difficulty. The 16 strands of MCS/MCSS/MCS2, which

contain more than 1,600 skill objectives, are divided into two types: computation strands and

application strands.
