Kate and Captain Keller began looking for assistance. But as expected, no one was willing to help a child who is deaf AND blind
or at least they just couldn't.
At the age of six, she was taken by her parents to see Dr. Alexander Graham Bell.
It was a struggle, but eventually they found someone willing to help her.
Her name was Annie Sullivan. A mere student of Graham Bell
In March 1887, Sullivan traveled to Tuscumbia, Alabama, to work for the Keller family.
Helen was particularly difficult to teach.
not only was she stubborn but she practically ruled the house.
In Helen's eyes, she was the queen. Everything she says (or in this case, indicates) goes.
Everything seemed hopeless
As a gift, Annie brings Helen a doll. This becomes the first word she learns. Doll. Annie took Her hand and spelled the word into Hellens hand using sign language
Unfortunately, Helen didn't care.
After a few frustrating days of trying to tolerate Helen, Annie takes her to a small house across the ranch and they spend a week there together alone
There, without the protection of her mother Helen is forced to learn.
Within about 3 days Helen learns to spell a few words.
But something was wrong
Helen could spell the words, but she didn't know what they meant.
It wasn't until Annie placed her hand under running water while spelling out the word did Helen finally realize that everything had a name
Helen soon learned the fingertip alphabet and shortly afterward to write.
By the end of August, in six short months, she knew 625 words
Achievements
Keller also went on to win various awards.
"She will live on, one of the few, immortal names not born to die. Her spirit will endure as long as man can read and stories can be told of the woman who showed the world there are no boundaries to courage and faith."
-Senator Lister Hill

This was hard on the family; considering they didn't know what to do. Not to mention no one was willing to cope with such a troubled child.
Born in 1885
Helen was subject to fits. As a result, rather than attempting to discipline her they let her have her way.
