• original name: Jose Cecilio de Jesus

• pen name: Huseng Batute

• published his first poem at the age of 17

• asked to act in a movie during 1930, but during the filming he contracted an ulcer and died in 1932 at the age of 35

• his heart was donated to a government museum where it was preserved until it was buried with his mother under a tree, a request he made in his poem "One Tree"
