CONFIGURE DETECTOR FOR SURVEY MODE

ALARM

  • Power off detector and obtain Nozzle
  • Remove rain cap, remove Nozzle from storage and stow rain cap in storage.
  • Open Nozzle and inspect for magnet
  • Place Nozzle on inlet and secure.
  • Close latch and observe power-on sequence
  • Switch to SURVEY mode
  • Perform Confidence Check
  • To silence audible alarm
  • Press any button on front of detector to silence
  • To Clear Alert Icon
  • Press MAIN MENU button, use the cursor to scroll DOWN to CLEAR ALERT ICON; press YES to clear the alert icon or NO to return to MAIN MENU. Clears when powered off.

CONFIDENCE CHECK (cont.)

  • Press MENU button to access Main Menu
  • Use DOWN cursor button to scroll to DETECTION MODE, press ENTER button to select.
  • Use DOWN or UP cursor button to highlight desired option (MONITOR or SURVEY).
  • Press ENTER to select.
  • Verify selected mode appears on main screen.
  • Remove end cap from port at one end of sample
  • Apply sample
  • note: once the detector displays APPLY SAMPLE, operator has 60 sec to complete a G or H simulant test. After 1st check operator has 60 sec to perform the check for the other simulant.
  • Observe as status display area displays WAIT, system message line displays CLEARING DOWN, and detector returns to SAMPLING.
  • Verify end caps are closed on confidence sample and return.

CONFIDENCE CHECK

  • Obtain confidence sample
  • Press MENU button to access Main Menu
  • Press ENTER button to select Confidence Check menu
  • Press ENTER button again to select Yes
  • Observe to verify mode area displays CHECK. Observe as status displays WAIT
  • Observe that status display area displays SAMPLING and system message line displays APPLY SAMPLE

Characteristics

  • The JCAD detects and identifies CWAs (Chemical Warfare Agents; nerve & blister) and TICs (Toxic Industrial Chemicals) vapors and issues visual and audible alarms in the event of a dectection.
  • Has 2 user selectable operating modes:
  • Monitor- 5 second cycle; detects CWAs and TICs
  • Survey- 1 second cycle; detects only CWAs

Description

  • The Joint Chemical Agent Detector (JCAD) M4A1 is a pocket-size, rugged, handheld detector that automatically detects, identifies, and alarms to chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemical vapors.
  • The JCAD replaces the Automatic Chemical Agent Detector and Alarm (ACADA or M22), M90, and M8A1 systems. The JCAD may replace the Chemical Agent Monitor (CAM) and Improved Chemical Agent Monitor (ICAM).
