Tips

Here are some extra tips to help you out:

  • Keep your homework in a folder separate from your other supplies to lighten your backpack each day.
  • Write your name on all your stuff so that you can find it easily if you loose it.
  • Come up with a special way to remember your locker combination. Maybe write it into a song or find something that each number means to you.

Materials

The materials you need will vary by class. Most teachers require that you have a pencil and paper for class. Some don't allow you to use pens on assignments. Others ask that you use pens over pencils. I know it's annoying, but do what your teacher says. The issue in middle school then becomes remembering which teacher has which preferences. Believe me, though, you'll get the hang of it quickly.

Remember Your Stuff!

There are always expectations for how to act in a classroom. Middle school is no different. You are expected to bring all of your materials with you to class, and most teachers will not allow you to retrieve something you left behind.

Core Classes

Your core classes are your normal classes like English and Science. The rules here are simple, and they're exactly the same as they were in elementary school. You should know, however, that the difficulty does increase a bit, and more responsibility is placed on you. Teachers don't always remind you about making up missed work, and if you don't come in, they will take off points.

Do Your Homework!

I know it's obvious, and I know it's a pain, but it's important to complete your work. Your teachers won't always remind you to make up; they'll just give you a zero and be done with it. Homework really does affect your grade!

TA

Important Things to Know About Middle School

TA Tip

TA is homeroom, but somebody decided that homeroom was too boring a name. You don't need to know an awful lot about TA, besides the fact that it determines the location of your locker and is used a lot to help locate you. The purpose of the twenty minute period every morning is to listen to morning announcements, and then to go wherever you're needed and take care of any missed work or other things that need taking care of.

Having friends in TA is great, but you'll get along without them. TA isn't very long or very important, so not knowing people in your TA is ok. Plus, you'll make new friends when you're not with your old ones.

Middle School: You're Ready

Middle school sounds like a big deal and a hard place to be, but there are some tricks and tips I can give you to help you make your way through it without struggle. Remember, you just need to work hard and try your best and you will do fine. Here are some ways to stay afloat in middle school.

Traveling

Moving between classes independently is another thing to add to the list of changes in middle school. You are expected to arrive at your next class from your last one in three minutes. Just walk with a purpose, hold on to your stuff, and you'll be good to go.

Gym

I'm sure you had some kind of physical education in elementary school, but middle school gym is a new experience. The big change is that you need to change. Changing for gym is said to bad, but honestly, I can't say I understand why. It means that you don't have to wear sweaty clothes after gym every day. You will get used to changing for gym very quickly. Just remember to bring your gym clothes!
