-It became known political during Roman times.

-In early 1455, the pope and the king of Naples join an alliance known as the Italian League, in which all five pledge mutual non-agression.

-Marriages were contracted for social or political purposes

-In Verona, Italy in the 1400s, Monuments and buildings were their types of art and a large part of their culture. Italy had flourished in architectural achievements in this time period. Verona also had exquisite paintings in the renaissance era. The sculptures and architecture exemplifies Italy’s cultural evolution. The walls around Verona had prevented the development in the city (ex: railroads, etc).

-In the 1400s, christianity was integral to their culture. Christianity was widely spread in Europe and the life of christ was understood. Religious images were painted and respected and acted as more of a structure of their religious teachings. Paintings of christ were also viewed in local churches. Christianity always acted as a general tradition in Verona.

Government

-Verona fell to Venice in 1405. The city fared well under venetian rule.

-Venice had the ‘Great Council’. In 1297 they closed it. It took decades to take full effect, they made a heredity nobility of about 1200 adult males from about 150 families with exclusive access to political power. There was an addition to the roster with the exception of about 80 families up until the seventeenth century.

-Their government included elements of monarchy, of aristocracy, and of republican process.

-Florence imitated the Venetian Republic when redesigning its government. Also it inspired English statesmen. Even some of the American founders in the eighteenth century.

-Exaggerated statements of the justice and serenity of the venetian state were made by proponents of the “myth of venice” beginning in the fifteenth century.

Social hierarchy

-Verona, Italy had four main social classes, the nobles, the merchants, the tradesman, and the unskilled workers. The nobles, being upperclassmen, lived on large estates and controlled most of the land. The nobles had jobs such as military officers, royal advisers, or politicians. The merchants, being middleclassmen, often married into noble family and had jobs such as wool processors, ship builders and bankers.

-The tradesmen and the unskilled workers were both considered lower class ranks. The tradesman usually belonged to organizations that set standards for the quality of their products since most of them worked as shopkeepers or craft workers. The unskilled workers however had no job protection and were often times dependent on their employers.

-Verona also had peasants. Peasants were not considered a social class because of how they lived their lives. They were always poor and lived in rural areas. The peasants were share croppers that worked on noble’s land for very little pay. They often starved or were killed.
