Frederick Douglass and The Inventions of Technology

Conclusion

The Civil War technology played a major part in winning the Civil War. There was a lot more technology that was used in the war but the hydrogen balloon and telegraph were the key parts in winning the war. The railroads really improved the production of the technology used for the war. The technology used here is used still today.

10. Frederick Douglass was born to a black slave as a mother and to an unknown white man in Talbot County, Maryland in February of 1818 and died of a heart attack on February 20, 1895.

The telegraph was a key part in this war. The telegraph made messages able to be sent faster to the front line battle field. The first person who made this telegraph was Samuel F.B Morse. The telegraph was made sure to be cut off between Philadelphia and Baltimore so that the Confederacy could not see the messages that were being sent by the Union. The telegraph was a major part of winning the war.

9. Frederick Douglass was born a slave and worked on a plantation system. He tried to escape slavery two times, but he failed. Finally, a free black woman named Anna Murray helped him escape slavery. At the age of 20 Douglass dressed up as a sailor and got on a train that was heading north. He went to Massachusetts, and then he married Anna Murray on September 15, 1838.

8. He had five children with Anna Murray. Anna Murray died and then he married a white woman named Helen Pitts who was 20 years younger than him. A lot of people did not like this because they were different races.

7. He was an abolitionist, and in 1863 he met with President Abraham Lincoln to discuss how the African American soldiers were being treated during the Civil War.

The Civil War was a time of a lot of technology inventions such as the Telegraph, Hydrogen balloons and also a lot of railroads. All of these things were key facts in making sure the war was successful and that the Union won the war. As we know the Union were the first ones to make all these things and then the South followed in their footsteps. Abraham Lincoln knew all these things would make a successful war.

The Telegraph was a key part in this war. The telegraph made messages able to be sent. This was important so that the government could communicate with the front line.

5. When he was 12, Frederick Douglass was sent to Baltimore to work in a house. His master’s wife taught him to read. This was important because without knowing how to read, Frederick Douglass would never have become a famous speaker and author and help free the slaves.

Hydrogen Balloons and Railroads

The hydrogen balloon was another major part of the Union winning the Civil War. The Union used the hydrogen balloon to spy on the Confederacy, soon after the Union started using it so did the confederate side. Surprisingly the balloons were never shot down during the war, but the balloons caused many accidents at this time. The first hydrogen balloon arrived in the United States on January 29th, 1793.

The railroads were used before, during, and after the Civil War. The railroads were used for transporting soldiers and supplies during the Civil War. The Union had a lot more railroads than the Confederacy. The North had 9,500 railroad tracks while the south only had 1,000. The railroads helped Abraham Lincoln win the war by being able to carry more soldiers and supplies to the war.
