Educators and school systems must move into the 21st century with our students.

Information fluency involves two subsets of skills:
1) the ability to access digital information sources to retrieve desired information by using surfing and searching skills
2) the ability to effectively assess and validate the information and content of messages retrieved.
Solution fluency is the ability to think creatively to solve problems in real time by using the 4-D process:
Creativity fluency is the process by which artistic proficiency adds meaning through design, art, and storytelling. It regards form in addition to function, and the principles of innovative design combined with a quality functioning product.
Collaboration fluency is teamwork proficiency that has reached the unconscious ability to work cooperatively with virtual and real partners in an online environment to create original digital products.
Media fluency requires two components:
1) the ability to look analytically at any communication media to interpret the real message, determine how the chosen media is being used to shape thinking, and evaluate the value of the message.
(2) the ability to create and publish original digital products, matching the media to the intended message by determining the most appropriate and effective media for that message.
All of the 21st century fluencies should be learned within the context of the digital citizen, using the guiding principles of leadership, ethics, accountability, fiscal responsibility, environmental awareness, global citizenship, and personal responsibility.
