Luna County Housing Development Corporation

LCHC moving forward

This relatively new organization has already done so much for Luna County and the City of Deming. Building new partnerships and strengthening existing ones with the communities help will allow us to do so much more. Our ultimate mission as a non-profit a Community Housing and Development Corporation will be fulfilled only if we can launch our initiative with strong local support business and otherwise. We at LCHC are eager to serve this community and excited for what lies ahead for the county.

Welcome to

Deming, NM

What services do we need to add?

A Job placement center in the new vocational training center

Basic literacy skill training the the form of free classes or tutoring

Monthly civic engagement activities

Why are these new service so important to LCHC's success?

NEW!

- The lack of basic literacy skills in

our community prohibits our citizens

from participating in many jobs thus harming the local economy and lowering quality of life.

Welcome!

- By offering an area to search for jobs as well as a counselor for job search assistance, we will not only give our community a free method of seeking employment but we will have a counselor who can testify to the untapped skills our citizens do have.

How can we assist you?

Pros

V

Cons

  • Utilizing community partnerships will free LCHC employees up to focus on long-term planning and success
  • Principal-agent problem: we will run the risk of letting someone misrepresent us and our mission
  • Managing the external environment will be more difficult with more partners
  • Aligning our goals with organization's with similar goals will be mutually beneficial
  • A new staff member will mean increased funding thus increasing the administrative burdens our organization already faces

Changes to technological, physical and financial capital

Technological: A new system for managing the vocational center's busy schedule will likely be necessary. A new operating system for our staff's computers will also be necessary.

Physical: Addition of the job placement section of the training center will mean a new separate area for the job counselor to meet with job-seekers.

Financial: With new partnerships we should see an increased more sustainable cash flow.

- Any new service such as these will likely facilitate community engagement naturally. To bolster this, organized events will improve overall quality of life and encourage citizens to take pride in their community as well as their careers.

Other key considerations...

-Increasing community activity encourages citizens to be involved. When they are more involved, we see increased economic activity and more feedback to help us keep improving.

- Supplementing the forums and discussions we have already been doing with more "fun" activities will help us get an idea of what other needs must be addressed in the community.

Selecting our partners:

It is critical that our partners be well established in the community. Having a genuine interest in community development is absolutely essential.

Trust and a sound reputation will be the two main criteria we look for as it is these two qualities that will encourage participation and engagement from our citizens. Trust also makes for improved partnership dynamics. By this I mean we can expect improved communication, more innovation due to collaboration and increased idea generation also due to collaboration.

Esteemed colleagues,

It is part of our mission to assure the citizens of this county have access to the resources they need to contribute to our great community. In order to do so we must develop a plan for selecting partners and maintain strong industry partnerships. The plan this presentation accompanies intends to facilitate and encourage economic growth in Luna County.
