Science Reaction Time Experiment

Aim-Abstract and Hypothesis

Aim

To find out the faster reaction times between genders

Abstract

This experiment will give an indication as to whether reaction times are significantly different according to gender. I will also assess reaction time with age groups of 13-14 vs ages of 50-60 and Computer gaming experience.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis in this experiment is : that young males with gaming experience will always have faster reaction time than young females, older people, regardless of gender and those with little or no gaming experience.

Discussion, Results and Graph

Discussion

Graph 2

From the data in Table 1 and 2, it indicates that males have faster reaction times than females. This agrees with the original hypothesis.

The data also shows that a proportion of the males are particularly fast and one female is faster than the others. Age does not appear to be a major factor in the speed of reaction time for either gender as there are 2 different scores for both the males and the females, and being young does not guarantee fast reaction time either from this data.

The gaming experience however seems to indicate faster reaction speeds for the individuals who agreed that they were experienced with games.

In conclusion: in this experiment it shows that males do have faster reaction times than females.

Reaction times do not necessarily decrease with age, and computer experience does give a person a faster reaction time.

A bigger and more varied sample of people would be required to determine if age and computer experience really did have an affect on reaction speeds across genders.

Results

Method

The following method that what was used to complete the experiment:

i) began with an explanation of what to do

ii) practice round

iii) each person was given 5 attempts and then the game averaged all the personal scores. All data was put into tables and graphs.

iv) All used a mouse in the right hand and had to click the mouse when the sheep was seen to move across the screen of the computer.

v) All data was then averaged by the computer game and written into tables and graphs.

Materials

The materials that were used for this experiment were: A Pc Computer Running a Windows Operating system, 10 people 5 male and 5 female,
