How does The Old Place present the setting of NZ?

The setting of this story is at a old house in New Zealand. It is a very run down house and no one has been there for many years.

How was the image of NZ created? (The Maori Jesus)

In this story the poet describes the citizens of NZ. He describes them as drop-outs and people who don't really care about what other people think of them. He shows this through the way he describes their careless acts.

How was the image of NZ created? (The Old Place)

The way that the poet describes the fence posts are 'drunk' shows that no one has been to the house and no one can be bothered to repair the fence posts. It gives you the image that they are leaning over just like a drunk person when they are walking they cannot balance themselves or keep themselves up right. "no one comes, for on one will ever leave the golden city on the fussy train". The poet is saying that no one will ever go out of their way to come to this old place and instead they can stay where it is nicer.
