Rules of the Game

Football Officials

The rules of football can be very basic or very complicated depending on the circumstance of the play. Violating a rule is called a penalty and the consequence is either a loss of yards, or a play not counting. Some of the more basic and traditional rules are no grabbing the face-mask, no moving before the play has begun for offense, and a team may not have more than eleven people on the field

There are usually seven officials on a football field calling a game, but this can differ depending on what level the team is playing at. The officials consist of a referee, umpire, head linesman, line judge, field judge, side judge, and a back judge.

The officials are in control of stopping a play, and watching the players to ensure that rules are being followed and that a play is fair.

Why Football is my Passion

Basics of the Game

I have loved watching and playing football from the time I was six years old to present. Football tests one's strength physically and mentally and the feeling of scoring a touchdown and hearing the drum line or winning the big game is unlike any other feeling I have experienced. It is also a sport with immense fellowship, my teammates are more than just teammates, they are my brothers and a group of people that I trust more than anyone else.

In Football there can be no more than eleven players on the field from each team. The eleven players can make up an offense, defense or special teams.

On defense the goal is to tackle the ball carrier and prevent touchdowns.

On offense the goal is to run with, catch, and throw the ball to make it to the end zone for a touchdown.
