How did it start?

  • Dr. Montessori opened the Casa dei Bambini, or "Children's House" in a low-income district of Rome.
  • In 1916, more than 100 schools in 22 states.
  • Many Montessori schools were created but by the 1920's the movement had lost it's novelty.

This method was created created by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1907.

  • In 1960, Dr. Nancy Rambusch started the American Montessori Society.
  • This lead to an increase of popularity for this method of teaching again.
