I graduated high school in 2007. While in high school I took few Child Development courses and it was then that I fell in love with working with young children. I be came fascinated with how they learn and how much they grasp on to everything. I knew from that point on that I wanted to be a teacher.
After high school I got pregnant and moved around with my husband while he was in the military. I thought I needed to put my education on hold until i found Ashford University in 2012. I have been with them ever since.
I am currently on the path to obtaining my bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, in hopes to one day apply my skills in my preschool classroom as lead teacher.
Hello Class and Instructor McBryde. I am 24 years old, a mom and a wife. I have been married for six wonderful years and together my husband and I have a six year old son named Julian and we are currently 31 weeks pregnant. We also have a four year old blue nose pit bull who is a complete sweetheart. We live in Southern California and we will call this our permanent home after living a military lifestyle. Our lives are pretty hectic and we are always on the go. My son is involved in many sports and he dances folklorico. On my free time, when I have free time, I enjoy baking, crafty projects, playing out side with my son, dog and the neighborhood kids.
Although I am 24 years old I have very little work experience in the field education. I do however have plenty of volunteer experiences with my son's preschool and kindergarten classes.
I started volunteering when my son entered preschool in Fall of 2012. Spending my days with his class only confirmed what I already knew in high school, that i wanted to be a teacher.
I live in an area that is very culturally diverse. On my first day volunteering I learned that many students come into preschool with different levels of speech. My son was one of the few who needed extra attention from the school's speech therapist. While learning to work with my son to improve his speech impediment I learned that my strength when communicating with others is listening and being patient.
Growing up I had a horrible stutter problem that was fixed with speech therapy. Now that my son is school aged we noticed that he too has, not a stutter but difficultly pronouncing certain letters that also seem to be improving with speech therapy. I hope by taking this class I can further understand how I can help my son over come this and help him communicate effectively with his peers.
