If students score substantially below proficient (1) in either Reading or Math, a Progress Plan is developed in partnership with the student and their family, and appropriate interventions are provided until the requirement is met.
Some students may need further instruction and/or additional time in school until they are proficient for graduation.

Waivers are intended only for students for whom there is clear evidence that they have reached the required level of proficiency. Students must be proficient in grade 9-10 standards in order to receive a waiver.

To assist in determining which students are eligible for a waiver, there is a waiver eligibility decision tree available on the RIDE website.
An improvement chart on the RIDE website shows the required NECAP scores needed to show “significant” improvement from the first/initial administration of the NECAP test to subsequent administrations in both Reading and Math. If a student shows this level of improvement, they have met the NECAP component of the graduation requirements.
Students have multiple opportunities to meet the state assessment requirement.
After students have taken the NECAP twice, they are able to submit other approved test scores. A list on the RIDE website details other test options and the minimum scores required to meet the state assessment requirement.
