MATTEL INC.

  • Mattel Inc. is another large toy and gaming manufacturing company founded in 1945
  • Mattel's popular known toys and games include Barbie, Hot Wheels, American Girls, Fisher Price, Scrabble, and Uno.
  • Mattel's first products made were actually not toys, but picture frames, which later went on to be used to build doll houses with.

Common Ground

  • Both companies make there profits by same means of manufacturing toys and games
  • Both companies had slipping sales at the beginning of 2013 and have since both made a good return with there stock prices trading in $30 and above per share.
  • Hasbro and Mattel both originally did not start off as toy manufacturing companies, but later went on to become the top toy manufacturers at one time. Currently Hasbro ranked #2 behind Mattel #1

The companies are different because they try to appeal to different audiences.

TOY & GAME MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

  • Most of Hasbro toys target either boy or girls. Which has recently started controversy resulting in them making boys toys in a girl version.
  • Mattel has many contracts to manufacture dolls for companies such as Disney, DC comics, and many more.
  • Expected to hit $100B mark by 2015
  • Toy and gaming industry is being influenced by consumers appeal to new and more sophisticated toys and games.

VS.

  • This industry is always changing and looking for new innovated ways to keep and bring in new consumers.

  • For 2013 Mattel is expected to see a 16% increase while Hasbro is expected to see 6%
  • Hasbro inc. is a branded company in the toy industry with around $4B in sales annually
  • There portfolio includes popular toys and games such as Transformers,Monopoly, Play-Doh, My Little Pony,Magic the Gathering, Nerf, and G.I. Joe
  • Hasbro are not only into games and toys, but are in the television programming, motion pictures, and digital gaming.
  • Girls toys have seen a big increase which Mattel manufactures a lot more of the popular girl toys such as American girl and Barbie while Hasbro has my little pony and tried to relaunch nerf weapons for girls.
