There are many rules in basketball, but I will only explain some of the basic ones since there are too many. If you want to read the full book of rules, visit this link. www.nba.com/media/dleague/1314-nba-rule-book.pdf . The first rule is that contact isn't allowed unless you are guarding someone, but even if you are guarding someone, there are some restrictions to it. For example, you can't hold onto the opponent in any way or else that is a foul. You also can't reach from behind them to get the ball. You are also not allowed to trap outside the three point line which is putting more than 1 person on someone outside the three point line. Another thing you can't do is stand in the key for too long. For the NBA.com/, you are only allowed in the key for 3 seconds. For most other leagues, it is 5 seconds. There are some of the most basic rules of basketball. To see more, click the link above. ^^^
Basketball is a sport where you throw a rubber ball into a hoop, but that's not where it started... Dr. James Naismith was challenged to create a new game that could be played indoors. He had a 2 week deadline to create the game. He decided to create a game that required finesse and accuracy, not on pure strength. He was inspired by a game he played as a child. The game was called Duck on a Rock. Its where a duck was placed on a rock and you had to hit it with a rock to attempt to knock it off, which required accuracy. The first basketball game was played where there were 2 peach baskets were placed 10 ft. off the ground, and you had to throw a soccer ball into the basket and had a set of 13 rules. The first game was played on December 21, 1891. And that was how basketball was created!
