Forensic Pathologists are trained physicians that examine the bodies of people who died suddenly, unexpectedly, or violently.

Most forensic pathologists need:

  • Very strong writing skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Active listening

They mostly:

  • Study medical history of victim
  • Evaluate crime scene evidence
  • Perform an autopsy to uncover more evidence
  • Analyze the evidence to make a conclusion

Most college graduates that are forensic pathologists now have taken most, if not all, of these classes:

  • Biology
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Psychology
  • Anthropology

The reason for these skills is due to their examination (writing, thinking, listening) and how they express their results from many expirements to the family members and the police (communication).

They also do similar things to what normal physicians do, such as diagnosis, documenting examination results, and monitor the effects of the crime.

Many recommend also to take many advanced science and mathematic classes.

There is no age limit to become a forensic pathologist, but there is a certain amount of time you have to spend training to become one.

To become a forensic pathologist, you first need a bachelor's degree then a medical degree. You need to pass a board exam. And you may need to have a doctorate according to some employers.

The total amount of schooling and practicing to become a forensic pathologist is around 12-13 years after highschool.

Required personality traits needed in order to become a forensic pathologist include:

  • Detail oriented
  • Integrity
  • Dependability
  • Concern for others
  • Self control

You also need a state approved medical licence.

So the technical age restriction is about 26-30 or 31 years old.

For all of these schools, you need a medical degree or a doctorate. The amount of schooling in these schools is 4 years, but the total amount of schooling you need after highschool is 11 more years (4 years for a bachelor's degree, 3 years residency, and 4 years of forensic studies).

The average salary per year is around $80,000 to $200,000. Most forensic pathologists make around the middle at $100,000 to $120,000.

Another job opportunity can be found in Utah. Only working for 5 days a week for 3 weeks and a 2 week break from January to June 2016.
