Instructional Technology

Coaches

Coaches Provide:

“inspire and participate in the development and implementation of a shared vision for the comprehensive integration of technology to promote excellence and support transformational change throughout the instructional environment” (ISTE, 2011, p. 1).

  • Best practices for instructional technology integration
  • Modeling and feedback
  • Minimal risk and opportunity to fail
  • Value in technology usage
  • Individualized support

Personal Beliefs

According to Leech (2010) "Teachers’ beliefs and their perceptions of the role and value of technology to support instruction will influence their use of technology and will directly affect technology integration and utilization" (p. 20).

With all these barriers to overcome, is it even worth it?

Yes, and there is hope

Technology integration is crucial for the 21st century learner, but it has to be supported for each individual teacher and viewed as essential in order for it to be done properly.

Risk Taking

Obstacles to Overcome

  • District Barriers
  • Personal Beliefs
  • Fear of Failing
  • Time & Success

Lack of Understanding

Technology integration can be viewed as a risk, and teacher's have to trust that it will bring success and value to their students before they will fully utilize it.

  • Teachers are not supported in their technology implementation, they are simply told to do it.
  • Misconceptions of what "good" integration is, and what it is not.
  • Lack of modeling and feedback that is non-evaluative.

“A person’s willingness to take risks is directly related to how teachers are or are not willing to integrate technology” (Howard, 2016, p. 1356).
