Angler Fish Hybrid

Physical Appearences

The angler fish hybrid is a blue fish with a larger round body. It had spikes with poison to paralyze its prey or predators (even though there are barely any). It also has a big mouth and large sharp teeth. This fish can swallow other organisms up to twice its size with its large mouth and round body. This gives it an advantage since food is scarce. Its body is more of a navy blue to blend in better with the darkness so only the light of its lure can be seen.

Physical Adaptations

If there was an invasive species to invade the deep zone, it would impact it greatly. This predator would eat other top predators like the angler fish. It would make predators scarce and the prey fish populations would grow. For example, organisms like phytoplankton that the angler fish larvae prey on. Top predators like the angler fish would become scarce and even extinct over time. The crustaceans, phytoplankton, plankton etc would over breed and become over populated. There would also be an abundance of food for the flashlight fish that feeds on crustaceans. Overall, an invasive species would be destructive to the food chain of the deep zone.

The angler fish hybrid has many physical adaptations. Some of them include large fangs, a large mouth, its lure, bioluminescence and spikes. The large fangs are for killing/eating its prey. The largemouth helps it eat prey up to twice its size! It uses a lure, that has bioluminescence (it glows). This is used to attract prey. The spikes are to paralyze predators if needed. These adaptations helps this fish to survive in the deep zone.

The Angler Fish Hybrid lives in the deep zone. The deep zone is very dark, and in some area, there is no light at all! Some organisms use bioluminescence, including the Angler Fish Hybrid. The water is also very cold. The temperatures can get extremely low (4,000m=2 degrees celsius). The water has a high salinity too. Organisms also have to withstand intense pressure. At 2,000 feet the pressure would crush a human! The farther down you go, the more intense the pressure is. Many animals have learned adapt to these conditions. There are more problems including a scarce food source. The angler fish hybrid uses its lure to attract its prey. There are many other fish and organisms living in this zone including the angler fish, Haplophryne mollis, glass sponges, tripod fish, giant squid, lantern fish, gulper eels, dragon fish, grenadiers (rattails), and many many more.

Behavioral Adaptations

Food Web

The angler fish hybrid has many interesting behavior adaptations. The one that is the most useful is using it’s lure to “lure” prey in. This fish uses it lure to attract prey. The lure uses bioluminescence, which makes it glow. A lure is a spikey growth that creates a light that attracts its prey and grows on the fish’s head. Since food is scarce in the deep zone, this adaptation comes in handy for catching prey.
