We should do more to breed them in captivity to bring up their population, and we should be more conservative on the amount of trees we remove from their habitat.
Lemurs live in families of up to 15 members. The females are the dominant gender in the group. Sometimes, the families are of only one gender. It defends it's self by "mobbing". This is where the group/family of Lemurs teams up to take down a predator, overwhelming it with sheer numbers.
The breeding season lasts only a few weeks.
They have the ability to shut down their need to mate when there is not enough food, storage, or shelter. They can also slow down their metabolism or even hibernate.
The Lemur is the smallest of all the primates.
They can live to be up to 18 years old in the wild, and 30 years old in captivity.
They are also mostly nocturnal, but occasionally active during the day.
The Lemur only lives in Madagascar. It's habitat is in the tops of tall trees. It almost never ventures onto the ground, unless it is fully grown.
They eat fruit and nuts that they find in trees or on the ground. They also consume small insects. Their only two natural predators are the Fossa and the Harrier Hawk. Humans have also been a predator to them, and are the reason that they are so endangered. Another reason for this is because of the high mortality rate of young Lemurs.
