Quota System

-Only 2% of a country's population was allowed into the United States per year

-Immigrants became more of a minority in the United States

-Non-Americans were alienated and unable to find jobs

The Palmer Raids

-Attorney A. Mitchell Palmer led raids and arrests against anarchists

-More than 500 foreign citizens were deported

-At least 3,000 people were arrested and many others were held for various lengths of time.

The 1920's were a tough time for immigrants in America. Fewer and fewer immigrants were being allowed into the U.S. The ones who had made it in were targeted by Americans and alienated when trying to find jobs. The "Land of Opportunity" became one of harsh treatment for many immigrants.

Red Scare

-Americans feared a Bolshevik revolution in their own country

-Eastern European immigrants, especially Russians were discriminated against due to revolutions in their home countries.

-Immigrants considered "alien radicals" were deported
