Matthew 5:7

What does this mean?

  • Help those in need
  • Forgive those who you don't like for some reason
  • Talk to that one loner sitting in a corner
  • Cheer up a person when they're sad
  • Donate to charities
  • Volunteer even when you're not required to
  • Get to know someone instead of automatically judging them
  • One Good Friday he heard the sermon of how Jesus forgave his enemies while he was on the cross.
  • On his way home he meditated on the sermon.
  • Suddenly, he found himself face to face with his brother's murderer.
  • During his time, it was customary to avenge his death.

St. John Gualbert

~Geraldine Genuino~

  • John was ready to kill the man.
  • The man fell to his knees and begged for him to spare his life for the name of Jesus crucified.
  • John replied, "I can refuse nothing that is asked of me for the sake of Jesus Christ. I not only give you your life, but also my friendship forever. Pray for me that God may pardon me my sin."
  • Later at a monastery while kneeling before the Cross, John was praying for pardon for his sins. Looking up at the cross, he saw Jesus bow His head, granting the pardon John had requested.
