What is Humanitarianism?
- A person promoting human welfare and social reform.Someone who strives to make other peoples lives better in their community.
- It's an act of kindness, benevolence, and sympathy extended universally and impartially to all human beings.
Origin in Human History
- During the 19th century which was maintained by the four Geneva Conventions of 1949.
- Nearly every state has agreed to be bound by them.
- Since then, the conventions have been developed and supplemented by two further agreements: the Additional Protocols of 1977 relating to the protection of victims of armed conflicts.
The Founder of Humanitarianism...
- William Wilberforce and Jeremy Bentham played a role in the movenment to abolish slavery.
- Ernst Troeltsch, a 19th- century theologian and philosopher reformed and distinguised the humanitarian movement from charity and philanthropy.
- The international humanitatarian movement resulted in a law that limits the effects of armed conflict. it protects those who are no longer participating in hostilities involving warfare.
