Crash Site
- Shughart and Gordon were inserted approximately 100m from the crash site, armed with their sniper rifles and sidearms, and made their way to the downed Blackhawk.
- Gordon was shot and killed first by the mob. Shughart then grabbed his sniper rifle and continued to return fire untill he was finally killed and the site over ran by the Somalis.
- The Somalis counted 25 dead after the firefight at the site.

Early Life
- Born August 13, 1958 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
- Assigned to the 2nd Ranger Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment at Fort Lewis, Wa in 1978.
- Shughart left active duty and went into the Army Reserve in June 1980.
- December 1983, Shughart returned to active duty and the following year attended Special Forces training and was assigned to Delta Force upon graduation.
