Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans

Physiology

Statistics

  • Exposure of the dental pulp-> Bacterial Colonization
  • Inflammation and Necrosis of pulp
  • Penetration of epithelium and connective tissue in gingiva
  • Irreversible tissue loss and bone resorption

Complications: 63% of patients

Emboli was the most common

Mortality rate: 18%

Formation of an inflammatory inflitrate

The infiltrate moves closer to bon, osteoclasts are induced and bone resorption occurs.

The infiltrate is at a distance from bone and doesn't stimulate osteoclastogenesis

Periodontitis and You

Anatomy of the Teeth

Complications

What is Periodontitis?

Healthy Gums:

Firm

Snug to teeth

Periodontitis Gums:

Inflamed

Pockets Forms

Peel away from teeth

Periodontitis accumulates plaque, calculus, debris from food in the pocket.

That destroy:

Gums

Teeth

Periodontal Ligament

++ Mandibular Resorption

Located in the oral cavity, teeth are one of the initial steps in the digestive process. Used for grinding and smashing food that allows for safer swallowing.

Periodontits

Heart Problems

Tooth loss

Differentiates from gingivitis:

Loose, mobile teeth

Bad Breath

Pain while chewing

Signs & Symptoms

Fever, cough, dyspnoea, weight loss, soft tissue absess, swollen gums

bad breath, pus in gums

Symptoms will be present for about 13 weeks before the diagnosis

Blood positive after 7-10 days

The main structures include: enamel, dentin, pulp cavity, gingiva, blood vessels, nerves, gums, root canal.

Teeth are also huge indicators for the health of the entire body. Dentists are able to see a lot of interior issues arising by viewing the teeth.

The human mouth consists of approximately 20 deciduous and 28-32 adult teeth (depending on amounts of wisdom teeth).

Treatments

Scaling

Root planning

Antibiotics

Grafts

Tissue regeneration

Introduction
