- Given the reading materials, students will be introduced to the current literatures on pain management using acupuncture in the United States and around the world
- Through trivia and true/false questions, students will be able to debunk some myths and misconceptions about acupuncture
- By visiting the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) website, students will understand the basic concepts behind acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
- Reviewing the article, "The effect of electroacupuncture and tramadol on experimental tourniquet pain," students will understand how acupuncture is compared to pharmaceutical medication and placebo
- Reviewing some current research abstracts, students will be introduced to how current studies are conducted with regards to acupuncture to test its safety and efficacy.
- Viewing a segment of the video, "Alternative Medicine The Evidence - Acupuncture," students will understand how acupuncture through "deqi" have biological effects on the body.
