Question

Urban sprawl is what occurs as cities increase in size. Urban sprawl results in a loss of biodiversity.

(a) Outline a plan to increase biodiversity in a nearby natural setting

(b) What effect would adding a bird feeder or a water feature such as a birdbath or pond have on the area you selected?

(c) What are the advantages of biodiversity?

How to fix Urban Sprawl

(C)The advantages of biodiversity are that it boosts the amount of animal and plant life in an ecosystem

and gives us more resources to utilize. People can shrink their ecological footprint by helping to increase the biodiversity in that

ecosystem. These are some of the advantages of biodiversity.

(A) The place that we plan to improve is the garden at St. Luke Catholic Elementary School and to increase biodiversity we chose to plant native flowers which will increase the amount of native bugs thus growing the pollination in the area. This helps the other flowers flourish. This is one way we plan to increase biodiversity in an area near us.

(B) Adding a bird feeder, a birdbath,

or a pond would encourage a lot of mosquitoes and birds like robins, warblers, finches, etc...

A pond is stagnant thus encouraging many bugs other than mosquitoes

and that could also attract invasive species. That is what would happen if you added these features to the St. Lukes garden.
